Immersion in history and nomadic tradition of Kazakhstan — Tamgaly tas

During this tour you will have a chance to visit historically exceptional collection of rock paintings named Tamgaly Tas. Tamgaly Tas literally translates “painting on a rock”. And it is in UNESCO list of the World Cultural Heritage. Also, during the tour you can visit Camel farm and introduce with traditional Kazakh culture by degustation shubat (camel milk).

Tamgaly is the biggest and known collection of Kazakhstan’s petroglyphs.  It is located in the tract Tamgaly, 170 km north-west of the city of Almaty. Tamgaly is the most famous center of the 50 centers of petroglyphs of Semirechye, the basin of Lake Balkhash. The petroglyphs are mostly Bronze Age, but in some cases from the Iron Age and the Medieval. The total number of drawings is about 5000. There are images of sun gods, warriors, married couples, pregnant women, as well as multi-figured compositions of people and animals, hunting scenes and scenes of animal sacrifice.

Camel farm


As an alternative, on a way back from Tamgaly you can visit Camel farm.
Camel Farm provides the whole Almaty region with “shubat”. There you can taste of the national drink, made from camel milk named “shubat’.
